On the basis of the different components of samarium cobalt ( SmCo ), it can be divided into SmCo5 and Sm2Co17, respectively is the first and the second generation materials of rare earth permanent magnets. Because of its very scarce raw material and the expensive price, they make its development limited.

Samarium cobalt ( SmCo ) as the second generation's rare earth permanent magnets, it not only has high energy product ( 14-28MGOe ) and reliable coercivity, and it shows good temperature characteristic in rare earth permanent magnets series. Compared with NdFeB magnets, SmCo works better in the condition of high temperature ( >200℃).

With the development of society, the magnet is used more and more widely, from the high-tech products to the most simple packaging magnetic, currently the most widely used is NdFeB magnets and ferrite magnets.
